Apartments in a historic tenement house

The first mention of a building in this place comes from 1521. It is not certain whether it was a wooden or already brick building, its first known owner was Gambala. Then the tenement house remained in the hands of the Burbach family until 1563, the next owner sold the property to Katarzyna and Gothard Wonraith in the same year. It is not known how the tenement house, then owned by Wincenty Matyasowicz, suffered during the great fire of Lublin in 1575. Matyasowicz rebuilt the house, built a wall dividing his property with the currently neighboring Rynek 11. In 1669, the tenement house was purchased by Antoni and Anna Naossadyn. After 1820, the tenement house was badly neglected, its owner at that time, Józef Prószyński, carried out a thorough renovation and reconstruction of the tenement house within a few years. In 1845, it was a brick tenement house, three-story, with four storeys of cellars. There were already two outbuildings. In 1854 the tenement house was auctioned off and bought by Jakub Prószyński. At the end of the 1890s, it was bought by families of Jewish origin. After World War II, it was returned to the families of its pre-war owners. In 1971, the tenement house was entered in the register of monuments under the number A/496.

Think back to the golden times of the Jagiellonians, when Lublin led the way as a tribunal city and hosted the most important royal dignitaries headed by the king himself. Immerse yourself in local folklore on a tour of the local open-air museum. Finally, think silently about those who have been taken from us by a cruel story. You will find traces of them in the synagogues and memorials that still exist in Lublin, such as German Concentration Camp at Majdanek.
